Will Wrist Watches Disappear in Generation Y? - The Rise of the “Cell Clock”

Is there a watch on your wrist? Do you have multiple watches at home? Did you invest in a nice timepiece? Is Generation y asking “Y watches?

Growing up I soon realized that a watch was a status symbol. Men and woman were wearing these beautiful timepieces on their wrist to show off what class they were in. Rolex for example had a class status around the world that meant success; the man or woman wearing it has been successful in

what they did. That was not even the highest class that is just what the “blue collard” worker was striving for and what was perceived to be upper class. But once you got to that upper class circle that group was striving for the next level of recognition, which was the Audemars Piguet, and the Patek Phillip as a couple examples.
Now the youth do not even know what a watch is…they have the time on their cell phone. There is no class distinction between cell phones that you use (at least not as great as watches). But do you believe that this is actually a good thing. The decrease in class definition through a materialistic object like a watch could be a good thing?
Generation Y grew up owning cellphones at the age of 10, this is a generation that has never seen a watch as a functional device never mind a status symbol. Do you think that because Generation Y might not fallow the generations that came before them that wore watches that the high priced time pieces that have carried their value for years and years might get devalued do to the possibility of less demand and over saturation?
I use to think a CD Walkman was an awesome device… What will be the next obsolete gadget?
